1) Real Time:- In this model the consultation is done in real time. The patient is connected to the remote physician using video conferencing technologies. This type of model can be used for consultations between physicians, physicians and other health care professionals, or between physicians & patients. Peripheral devices like electronic stethoscopes & otoscopes can be connected to the computer used for communication to aid the remote physician in diagnosing the patient.

2) Store & Forward: – This model is used when both the providers are not available at the same time. In this model the patient data is captured using electronic equipments in the form of images, videos , radiology images, provider's voice or text dictation on the patient's history. This data is then sent to the remote provider using email or placed on some server where it can be accessed by the provider.
